ABOUT US...

Hello, I am Penny

Red Eagle has been our favorite and our first Appaloosa was a Dutch Eagle son, him being a Red Eagle grandson through American Eagle.  Our second mare was a Mansfield Comanche bred mare and that is another favorite line but don't have any at the present time.  Joker B, Apache, mostly old time foundation lines

That line is the first Appaloosa we owned and he was reliable and a do anything horse and the favorite build, strong and with that look of eagles so sought after

We started breeding in about "70" when our first colt was old enough and after we found a mare.  At that time there was a very large market for the early types and the ones we liked and were just great all around using horses who did it all for us.  We trained them ourselves, did halter, western pleasure, games, campouts, trail rides, pushed cattle and did parades and well with no bad days, lameness or the lack of try some horses have.

My favorite rented horse as a young teen was Debbie, an unregistered Appy mare who just was so honest and gentle and willing to go all day long.  We were also friends through my in-laws, of an early breeder Rhoma Cox and his family and we were impressed by his horses.

Our first one was Dutch's Dark Eagle, born in "66" and aquired at 18 months, un colored and at that time color was very important so we got him cheap.  We kept him at a boarding stable and then got a mare, also an Appy who had a colt but was pretty much untrained.  When he was old enough he was broke to ride to the roping arena at owned by the stables and learned about cows, he loved to try to cut even though we weren't experienced in that field.

Most of the riding was trail riding, alone and big organized rides and our stallion, Dutch was always welcome and a gentleman.  If no stallions were allowed we didn't do that ride.  He was used to teach me to show in Western Pleasure and Western Equitation, both of us learning together.  He did halter classes, went on campouts and swam, he did parades and he and I used to play tag in his little pasture when we moved to our own place.  His best friend was the mare called Sugar Plum who was also mine and taught the kids to really ride, all four.  Biggest thrill was doing the Pasadena Rose Parade.

Penbo's program is to get back to breeding Appaloosa to Appaloosa to perpetuate a breed, having more of that bloodline with each generation as they are a doing, using and reliable  horse with all the trimmings one could want, and all different, some individuals different themselves from the last year in coat patterns.  The breed is centuries old with known connections far back into history and before the registry.  Most have always been recognizable by the varied and at time loud markings setting them apart in that way and in the build of a horse meant to be used and last.

Our operation is geared to start back on the track to reproduce Appaloosa to Appaloosa breeding with the infusion of more foundation breed horses used as they can be acquired and no outcrosses to any other breed, eventually producing multiple generations of only Appaloosa, colored horses with sound minds and usability ingrained and drawing on those past centuries of the same.

And in case you were wondering.......
